Big Boy 4014 visits Pennsylvania
As is well known, in July, 2026, Union Pacific took the Big Boy 4014 on a tour back east. The videos of 4014 in Pennsylvania come to us by way of our Chapter President, Bob Brewster, who caught it running by.
Big Boy 4014 delights a very large crowd in 100+ degree heat at historic Valley Forge, PA, as the giant loco whistles past the classic former Reading Railroad station, now a display and informational feature of the National Park Service related to the significance of Valley Forge during the nation’s Revolutionary War. The train will spend the night of July 2, 2026 a few miles away at the former Reading Company’s Abrams Yard in King of Prussia, PA. Our Chapter President spent time in the early 1960’s visiting Abrams with his camera. Norfolk Southern now operates these portions of the Reading. Another very large turnout cheered the locomotive on as it heads toward its South Philadelphia 2-day public display location. Excessive heat did not discourage the public from attending this likely once-in-a-lifetime experience! Big Boy’s national tour surely sparked interest in steam locomotives and our rich railroad history! Please click anywhere on this paragraph to view the video.
